We all have felt lonely before and many of us will seek to date. However, what started out as casual dating all of a sudden turns into something more long-term. The problem with this is that person may not be the healthiest person for you. They are, what I call, “an emotional stand-in.”

An emotional stand-in is a person who meets the basic need for you not to feel lonely, but that was all you initially wanted them to be. You ignored your gut feelings and simply “lived in the moment” and now you are in a committed relationship. This is fine. However, if you are seeking a healthy relationship with someone then you must be aware of what I call “yellow flags” in a relationship.

We all know what a red flag is in a relationship – it’s essentially a dealbreaker. Yellow flags are those situations that just seem “off” about the dynamic of your relationship. For example, the person always interrupts you when you talk, they don’t return your calls when they say they will, they don’t recognize that your time is valuable, etc.

When you recognize a yellow flag you must set boundaries with this person and ask more questions. The more you are aware of potential yellow flags and hold that person accountable you won’t end up compromising in a dating relationship. Be sure to follow me for more life tips like this.

Be kind to one another.
