Mental health, substance abuse, and addiction are issues that are impacting millions. Each year more people are struggling, and we are losing lives at an alarming rate.

Jeff Johnston is an author, entrepreneur, and advocate. After losing his son, Seth, in 2016 to fentanyl poisoning, Jeff decided to change the trajectory of his life. He realized that in the face of grief and loss he had two choices. He could go down a road of anger and despair and become bitter, or he could use his situation as motivation to become better. Jeff chose the latter.

In 2021, Jeff lost his wife of 21 years, Prudence, to alcoholism. This furthered Jeff’s passion for bringing awareness to these issues.

In today’s episode, James and Jeff talk about the Living Undeterred Tour which is a 95-day cross-country trip with the goal of building a network of contacts and resources to help develop alternative solutions to the mental health and addiction crises.

The Living Undeterred Tour’s goal is to change the mental health narrative. They understand that they do not claim to have all of the answers. What they want to accomplish is to:

• End the stigma around these issues.
• Start the conversation with those who are struggling or have struggled, those who have lost loved ones, and those who are working in the mental health, substance abuse, and addiction fields.
• Begin to build a collective of resources and find alternative solutions to work toward a better future.
